Dr. Carlos Vargas-Ramos “The Political Impact of Puerto Rican Migration”
Director for Public Policy, External and Media Relations, and Development
Center for Puerto Rican Studies (CENTRO), Hunter College/CUNY
Influential scholar Dr. Vargas-Ramos will lead this not-to-be-missed panel discussion and share his research and distinctive approach in illustrating the impact of Puerto Rican migration on political behavior, political attitudes and orientations, as well as on issues of racial identity. Take a deep-dive with us and explore how demographic changes among Puerto Rican and other Hispanics may affect representation at the congressional and county levels.
Dr. Carlos Vargas-Ramos is a Puerto Rican political scientist, prolific author, and intuitive researcher. Carlos received his B.A. in Political Science and Economics from Rutgers University, and also holds an M.A. in Hispanic Civilization from New York University, and a Ph.D. in Political Science from Columbia University.

Distinguished Professor and Social Scientist, Dr. Rivera will moderate a Q&A panel featuring prominent legal experts on the distinct impact of Florida’s school and workplace Diversity, Equity, Inclusion bans on our community.

Dr. Rivera is Central Florida’s leading voice on issues of health, education, and equity impacting the ever-growing Puerto Rican community. Highly recognized for his transformative approach to collaborative research, advocacy, and program development, he founded the Puerto Rican Research Hub in 2018 at UCF. Rivera earned his bachelor’s in Sociology from the University of Puerto Rico-Mayaguez. Rivera continued his studies in Sociology at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln, completing his master’s and a PhD. After graduating, he conducted his postdoctoral studies at the Institute for Health, Health Care Policy, and Aging Research at Rutgers University.
